our groups are of mixed ability, you will find beginners training with our seasoned members who have been with us since the 1990's! We've found that this works better for us as a group and people learn quickly. All training is aimed at developing practical fighting skills and strategy, should ever the need arise, we are then able to survive a real world violent confrontation.
ABMVT training develops effective fighting skills by applying scientific physical principles to achieve efficiency and to limit stress to the body in each movement. Fundamentally still Ving Tsun Kung fu but a different approach to learning.
I had previously trained in a popular traditional lineage of Wing Chun for two years, I began to feel the techniques taught only seemed to work within the fixed choreography during class and students that were physically stronger were always more successful. Students that were more "advanced" or "senior", although more familiar with the drills or forms were not noticeably any better. The "Sifu" demanded great respect and provided vague answers to any queries, which often left me confused. This suggested to me that what I was learning was not practical enough to be actually used in a fighting situation and relied too heavily on brute strength. I therefore decided to leave the club, to try a different interpretation of Wing Chun and joined ABMVT Manchester.
I found ABMVT coaching provided a logical explanation for everything taught and I could easily understand how these concepts (not techniques) could be applied in realistic situations. Principles are consistent with emphasis on practicality. Quick development of skill was noticeable and is easily seen in all club members, not limited to physique, age or gender. Training is informal, enjoyable and forward thinking. Club members are supportive of each other's development and knowledge is shared openly with no competitiveness. I would highly recommend ABMVT, especially to those who already train in Wing Chun/Ving Tsun and have questions their "Sifu"' cannot answer.
I have been training in Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) for over a year now. The club is based around ABMVT and is really good. I could see that as time progressed, I could hit harder and my hands were getting a lot quicker. My kicks also became faster and stronger when hitting the bags. The wing chun front kick is a brutal kick which is very fast, efficient and easy to learn. Various other kicks have also improved, my roundhouse kicks are faster and can always get a few tips from the trained martial artists at our club.
The people at ABMVT are very welcoming and on my first lesson I felt as if I was a part of ABMVT already as also felt very intrigued and interested in this wing chun.
The self defence in ABMVT is great as I found that I progressed tremendously over a short period of time (a few weeks). The self defence is also amazing and is fit for all types of people as you don't require a very physical physique. I also find this system great because it works and is very unique compared to the other wing chun clubs, I would say it is much better.
The people who go to this club are trained martial artists and have trained in a variety of martial arts in their past such as boxing, aikido, JKD, karaté etc. In our pad work we also have very similar drills to boxing, which I personally find interesting as it would seem to be more efficient and effective for self defence in a street fight.
In this club you will become more confident and self reliable.
Ged, the instructor in ABMVT Manchester is a very skilled martial artist and definitely worth the money to train with.
ABMVT emphasises individual personal development therefore there is no hierarchy system, no belts or grades. Coaching is to develop your skill and not to imitate techniques of others, there are no Masters, Sensei or Sifus. Development is continuous and constantly evolving.
